All about Justin

Justin first graduated from the National Theatre Drama School in 1998, from where he went on to have the life-changing experience of studying under master teacher William Esper in New York City. Following this experience he was awarded a scholarship to train in the Full Time Program at 16th Street Actors Studio where he graduated in 2010.

Justin returned to New York City to continue his studies at Esper Studio at which time he also had the privilege of working with, and being mentored by Elizabeth Kemp. It was during this period he discovered a deep affinity for teaching the craft of acting, and became a ‘core’ teacher of 16th Street Actors Studio.

In 2016, Justin was offered a scholarship at Esper Studio and for a third time returned to New York to further extend and deepen his knowledge. Justin has appeared in numerous primetime Australian TV series and has toured nationally with Melbourne Theatre Company. Justin has also taught at: WAAPA, RMIT, Patrick School Of The Arts, The Reach Foundation and Tomorrow Man.

Course Overview

This is an exclusive opportunity to work with one of Australia’s most respected and authentic Meisner studios, the Justin Lehmann Studio. JLS is the only school in Australia that teaches the authentic Meisner Repetition. In this special introductory one day Masterclass, Justin will take actors on a deep-dive into exploring Sanford Meisner’s world famous foundational exercise. Justin Lehmann’s teaching is faithfully inspired by the great Meisner master teacher William Esper. William Esper is internationally recognised as one of Sanford Meisner‘s most authentic protégées, having worked alongside Meisner for over 17 years.

Justin’s work seeks to offer Australia a direct insight into the genius of Sanford Meisner’s groundbreaking but often misunderstood exercise. As a result of staying true to the lineage, this class offers a direct experience and understanding of the true purpose and wisdom of this work.

Justin Lehmann Studios is the only place that teaches authentic Meisner Repetition in Australia which has seen a flurry of dedicated actors pursuing their craft under the expert tutelage of Justin. The HubStudio is thrilled to offer what we consider will be the most authentic and profound Meisner workshops in Sydney.

If you are a professional actor looking to expand into a more authentic understanding of Meisner, or you are new to the Meisner craft, then this series is one of the most highly regarded courses you can do.

Course Outline

The Authentic Meisner Masterclass supports the specific Meisner Repetition process. Over many years, the Meisner Technique has proven to be a reliable, organic and healthy way to learn the craft of acting.

This introductory course focused on connecting the actor back to the original purpose and wisdom of Meisner’s famous improvisation exercise.

As you unfold in this masterclass, your experiences will become more expansive, your work more authentic and your capacity to embrace and work from yourself will be much richer.

This course is for those who have a serious intention to train, and a need to grow and expand artistically.

WILLIAM ESPER ON JUSTIN LEHMANN.

“Justin Lehmann is one of the most dedicated and passionate people that I have encountered in the 50 years that I’ve been teaching at The Neighborhood Playhouse, Rutgers University and the William Esper Studio. In that time, I have taught some of the most successful professionals in our field. Every time I taught him in class, I realised I had just spent time with an actor and artist of great depth. I love Justin’s work as well as anyone would who has worked with him.“
